Project Location:
Gratiot Farms Wind Project is located approximately 50 miles northwest of Lansing, MI in Gratiot County. The site has a tabletop feature and is comprised of mostly row crops. State Highway 57 borders the project’s southern boundary and State Highway 127 is approximately ten miles to the east.

Project Interconnection:
Gratiot Farms Wind Project interconnects to a ITC 345kV transmission line, which runs west to east through the core of the project area.

Project Size:
150 MW

Project Turbines:
To be determined.

Landowners and Acreage Involved:
Gratiot Farms Wind Project has over 100 landowner partners representing a total project area of 16,000 acres.

Commercial Operation:
Gratiot Farms Wind Project is expected to be construction ready by 2012.

Utility Buyers:
The power produced by Gratiot Farms Wind Project will be sold to Michigan utility companies and other utility companies located within the MISO regional transmission area.

Project Developer:
The developer of the Gratiot Farms Wind Project is TradeWind Energy, LLC (“TradeWind”), which is headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas. The senior managers of TradeWind have over 100 years of combined experience in the independent power development business including acquisitions and project development across the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean, as well as significant regulated utility experience.

Key Project Attributes:

  1. When completed, the project will produce enough power for approximately 45,000 Michigan homes.
  2. The project has received tremendous local and state support.
  3. The project will only take a minimal amount of acreage (1% to 2%) out of service, including land for roads, turbine foundations, and maintenance buildings.
  4. The project will have little or no impact on fire, water, or wastewater infrastructure.
  5. The project will utilize local labor and materials for its construction and operations and will generate significant economic benefits to the local community.
  6. The project, when completed, will offset approximately 450,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, 1,500 tons of NOx per year, and 2,100 tons of SO2 per year.
